Colombia
7 incredible customs
The list of things we love about this great nation would be very long. For something it is considered the 3rd happiest country in the world. Could it be the warmth of its people? Will it be cumbia and vallenato? Could it be that its streets are full of color? I think it's because of all this and because of these 7 incredible customs of Colombia, which I will present to you shortly.
The Black and White Festival : Held in San Juan de Pastos, it is divided into days. Both on the day of the whites and the day of the blacks, the participants paint their faces taking into account the day they are on. Perfect to save on makeup.
“Tomarse un tinto” : This phrase does not refer to a glass of wine. Rather it refers to very black coffee. Taking into account that it is one of the countries with the best coffee on Earth, I would appreciate "a red" at any time.
Annual Contest of the Ugliest Man : Held in the municipality of Rio Negro in Antioquia and also known as "The Reign of the Ugly", it is a contest where the least graceful factions are taken into account. It is not for nothing that they use the motto “being ugly pays”.
Guinea Pig Races: In Bogotá, colourful competitions are held where the furry athletes run to get into some pots of different colors. Bets are placed on the first to arrive, as well as on which coloured pot the friendly rodent will hide in.
The Donkey Festival : It already strikes us that in Colombia a festival is dedicated to one of the least talented mammals, but things get better. It turns out that the donkey is disguised with elements that refer to personalities from public life.
El Tejo : This is an autochthonous Colombian sport, where a metal disc is thrown towards a wall loaded with small explosives, in order to make them explode. Don't you think it would be interesting to see him at the Olympics?
Las Palenqueras : Like something out of a traditional painting, these Afro-descendant women, in colourful costumes, go out to sell fruit through the streets of Cartagena. A whole spectacle without waste.
Colombia is inexhaustible in customs and surprises. It is a mandatory destination for those who want to experience intense joy. Bogotá, Medellín and Cartagena are cities that wait with open arms and a smile the size of the sun.
