Dubai

From fishing village to city of splendor

How can a city go from a humble fishing village to one of the most glitzy cities on the planet? Next, we will talk about what Dubai was and is now.

This city is the capital of the emirate of Dubai, one of the seven that make up the United Arab Emirates (along with Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaima, Sarjah and Umm al-Qaywayn), being the main port and the largest city in the country.

It began as a fishing village and bussers, until oil fields were discovered in the 60's. This contributed to a stronger economy, leading the emir (ruler of the emirate) to invest in luxury buildings.

Among the curiosities of Dubai we can mention that it is known as the "City of Gold", due to its more than three hundred shopping centers dedicated to this metal. It even has ATMs that can dispense from gold coins to bullion.

The city has its own world map, made of artificial islands. Similarly, it has the Islas de Palmas, also artificial, which, when seen from a considerable distance, have the shape of a palm tree. They are considered the largest man-made.

It has the Burj Khalifa, 828 meters high, three times more than the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It is the largest building in the world, although the most characteristic is the Burj Al Arab, the only 7-star hotel, recognizable by its sailboat-shaped structure. Of the 10 tallest hotels, 7 are in this city, which draws the attention of thousands of tourists a year, with Dubai being the 7th most visited city on the planet.

The world's largest aquarium, indoor snow slope and shopping mall, Dubai showcases these luxuries and more. It is a city of so many wonders that it is mandatory to visit it at least once in your life, in order to live an unforgettable experience. And to think that it all started with some humble fishermen.
