Japan: 5 unique things about the “Land of the Rising Sun”

Japan
5 unique things about the “Land of the Rising Sun”

The eyes of the world have always been amazed and amazed at the exotic things that come from a cluster of islands in the Pacific Ocean. That's right, an archipelago of 6,852 islands makes up the country of Japan; a land of honor and discipline, where centuries-old customs and technological innovations coexist. Here I present to you those 5 unique things about the “Land of the Rising Sun”.

In 2013 we visited the capital city with our group. Throughout Tokyo we could see the celebration for having won the games that are taking place today. We stayed in front of the town hall where the banners and bulletins gave the good news; having no idea what the future held: Tokyo 2020, held in 2021, without the expected large audience. Despite this, we have witnessed a tremendous spectacle. The best athletes from the 5 continents measure their aptitudes and this has once again made our eyes surprised and interested in their customs and curiosities.

  • Transparent toilets: These are 17 public toilets located in different parks in Tokyo. But don't be scared. Once a user enters, the colored windows are fogged up thanks to a technology that guarantees privacy. No more "unpleasant surprises" when we want to go to the bathroom.

  • Encapsulated hotels: As you have just read. Initially designed for businessmen who had to constantly travel from city to city, these capsules have space for a mattress and a small television. Today it is a very popular option for tourists who do not suffer from claustrophobia.

  • Vending machines for everything: On this side of the world, machines can offer us snacks, drinks and sweets, right? But Japan goes further. Cities full of machines that sell chargers and items for computers, underwear, flowers, hamburgers, sake, vegetables, umbrellas and of course masks, etc. The list is no less strange, I assure you.

  • Rabbit Island: Okunoshima is an island with a high population density of rabbits. The cuddly, furry inhabitants roam freely and visiting humans can feed and interact with them. To avoid a civil war between species, the entry of tourists with dogs or cats is prohibited.

  • Sauna for macaques: In the Jigokudani Monkey Park, in Nagano Prefecture, the low temperatures contrast with the hot springs in the area, due to the fact that they are inside their lands. This helps the monkeys to protect themselves from the cold. Nature sauna where macaques forget their problems, with the best style.

I hope that with these curiosities of Japan, we understand the importance of traveling and learning about other cultures. Who knows? The next destination may be filled with adventures unusual enough to make it into our lists.
