Russia

Big, in every way

Russia is the largest country on Earth, with an area of 17 million km². In other words, 14% of the world is Russia. It is the 7th country with the largest population in the world. Being big in every way, not only in size, but in attractions and curiosities that invite tourists to adventure. The time has come to review some of these wonders.

Due to the great territorial extension of the country, Russia is divided into different federative entities. There are 22 republics, 46 oblasts, 9 krais, 1 autonomous oblast, 4 autonomous districts, and 3 federal cities. It is also the only country with 12 seas under its territory. Therefore, the population is multicultural and of great ethnic diversity, distinguishing among others, the Russian, Tatar, Ukrainian, Chuvash and Bashkir peoples. Throughout the territory we can find a large part of the existing religions in the world.

The statue of the Motherland, erected on the Mamayev Kurgan hill in Volgograd (formerly Stalingrad), in 1967 was declared the largest statue in the world. Due to its pose (it has a sword raised in its right hand and its left arm extended) it is significantly more complex than the other larger statues.

Saint Petersburg is the 2nd largest city in Russia and is the country's cultural capital, founded by Tsar Peter the Great in 1703. It has twice as many bridges as Venice (Italy). Among the main attractions are the Peter and Paul Fortress, as well as the Pantheon of the Russian Tsars. It also has the deepest subway in the world, with lines that reach up to 110 meters underground. The four lines that make up the Saint Petersburg metro pass under the Neva River, one of the mightiest in all of Europe.

And speaking of underground train systems, the Moscow metro is the 3rd longest in the world, at 298 km. It is second only to those in London and New York. The Moscow metro is also known for the richness of its decoration, which in some parts refers to its history and for which it has received numerous awards. Moscow, the capital of Russia, is the most expensive city in Europe and the 4th most expensive in the world.

Lake Baikal, located in the southern part of Siberia, is considered the deepest in the world, with a depth of 1,680 meters.

Russia is no stranger to UNESCO recognition, as it has the following monuments: the Kizhi Pogost, the Historical Center of Saint Petersburg and monumental complexes, the Kremlin and Red Square, Historical Monuments of Novgorod, historical and cultural complex of the Solovetsky islands, white monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal, architectural complex of the Trinity and Saint Sergius, in Sergiev Posad, Church of the Ascension of Kolomenskoye, among others.

It is not for nothing that it is one of the main powers of the world. Russia is culture, history, architecture and a destination full of surprises for the most adventurous tourists.

The history between the Dominican Republic and Russia is neither short nor small. Many of our professionals who were born in the 1940s / 1950s completed their studies in this territory through specialized programs. Doctors, teachers, mathematicians were the predominant careers.

Speaking of our beaches, many Russians come from that country every year to visit them and have even made them their home. Throughout Russia, Punta Cana is famous. In 2019 some 189 thousand people visited us and by 2022 we intend to far exceed this figure. Another important fact is that Dominicans no longer need a visa to visit them. The process for this visa was long and tedious, thank God, we have signed an agreement and as of this 2021 it is not necessary. It is the perfect moment to increase the exchange between our cultures.
