"Things you never imagined finding"
Yes, I know. You read “Australia” in the title and think of kangaroos, koalas, boomerangs and Crocodile Dundee. But there are not so famous things, which are normal in this country (almost a continent). Come with me to discover these peculiar customs and attractions that you had no idea you could find.
Elvis Festival: More than 40 years after the death of "The King of Rock", his legacy continues in force throughout the world. In the city of Parkes, Australia, a large festival dedicated to Elvis Presley is held, with a large number of impersonators of the legendary American singer. There are even fans who book hotel rooms years in advance. I'm already reserving mine.
Coober Pedy: Can you imagine a city where the houses are built underground. Well, in the city of Coober Pedy, it's a reality. It is an Australian city in the middle of the desert, whose houses have all the comforts, not to mention protection against sandstorms. The name of the town comes from "Kupa Piti", which in the local aboriginal language means "white man's burrow".
Atlantium: In 1981 three youngsters came up with the idea of creating a country in their backyard. Such mischief did not stop, turning into a serious matter. The Empire of Atlantium, although it is not considered a sovereign state or recognized as a nation by any other country, has its flag and even a currency that circulates only in the community located in New South Wales.
Gnomesville: Alright, now this is going to get creepy . For some reason, garden gnomes are very common in horror movies, but in the Dardanup community, they are seen as a most harmless attraction. No one knows how this collection of porcelain gnomes began and it is said that some gardener left several specimens and that others brought more until they reached a population of thousands of cute little men.
The giant sculptures: One of the attractions in the small towns of Australia are, without a doubt, the giant statues. These are not related to each other. These are giant sculptures of animals, fruits that can be seen on the road, near a gas station or a restaurant. Some of these even travel by truck on fun tours of the cities, so that tourists can take fun pictures.
