The most populous Hispanic country in the world
Mexico is the most populous Hispanic country in the world, at the same time that it is the 7th with the greatest linguistic diversity. Apart from Spanish, 67 native indigenous languages are registered.
Due to its wonders in different areas, the country has been recognized with 35 World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. It is time for us to know some curiosities of this great nation where a large number of languages, culture and history converge.
It is one of the most mountainous countries on the planet. Approximately 65% of its territory is made up of elevations of more than 500 meters. Due to American movies, Mexico is often portrayed as a desert country, yet coniferous forests, jungles, savannahs, and grasslands make up most of its land.
Mexico City is its capital, built in turn on the ancient Tenochitlan, capital of the Aztec Empire. Due to this, Mexico has 37,266 archaeological sites, among which we can mention the Giant Olmec heads, the Atlanteans of Tula, the Stelae of Toniná, among others.
Due to the diverse climates and cultures that coexist in Mexican territory, you can find a great diversity of dishes, not only of indigenous influence, but also of European and Arab ones. The gastronomy of Mexico was recognized by UNESCO as Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
The most visible European cultural heritage to this day in Mexican territory is undoubtedly its colonial architecture, with palaces and cathedrals throughout the country. The Hospicio Cabañas de Guadalajara, the National Palace and the Chapultepec Castle in Mexico City stand out, among many other dazzling architectural testimonies.
The festivities, as often happens in other Latin American cultures, make up a large part of the Mexican identity. Among them are: Candelaria Day (January 2), Virgin of Guadalupe Day (December 12), Independence Day (September 16), Guelagetza (July 16), Veracruz Carnivals and Mazatlán (February-March), Revolution Day (November 20), the Day of the Dead (November 1 and 2) and Las Posadas (December 16-24).
Another element of Mexican culture are its dances, many of which are of Hispanic, indigenous or mestizo origin, among which we can mention: the Jarabe Tapatío, the Huapango, the Dance of the Old Men, the Polka Norteña, the Dance of the Parachicos , Dance of the Deer, Dance of the Chinelos, the Yucatecan Jarana, the Dance of the Feather, Dance of the Concheros, among others.
In the elevated areas of the north of the country it usually snows, as well as in the mountainous regions of the tropical part. This makes Mexico have a varied climate, as if it were a continent within another.
Each state of the republic has its own cultural elements, which contribute to the characteristic diversity of the country.
Without a doubt, Mexico is one of the great cultural capitals of the world. They contain in their 1,964,375 km², history, folklore and a wide diversity of tourist attractions that leave their visitors amazed.
